Euro 2024 Semifinals

08.07.2024

Spain vs Germany
Football fans were not disappointed. Both teams delivered a fantastic show. Although the match was decided by a goal scored in extra time, there were plenty of beautiful plays from both sides.

France vs Portugal
France won after a penalty shootout. They advanced to the next stage without scoring a goal from open play. For Cristiano Ronaldo, this was his last European Championship, and also the first one in which he did not score a goal. You could say that an era has ended.

England vs Switzerland
In the second half, both teams provided a rollercoaster for their fans. Switzerland took the lead first, but England equalized less than five minutes later. In extra time, both sides tried to tilt the balance in their favor, but it came down to penalties to decide the winner. The English team proved to be better in the penalty shootout.

Netherlands vs Turkey
Just like the first quarterfinal match, the closing match was equally impressive. Despite scoring first, Turkey couldn’t hold onto their lead. The Dutch team played their best match of the tournament so far, turning the game around and securing the victory.

Tomorrow, the semifinals begin. The top 4 teams of the tournament and 2 matches will determine this year’s finalists. Spain vs France on 09.07.2024 at 21:00, and Netherlands vs England on 10.07.2024 at 21:00.
Will Spain defeat France and continue their winning streak in the tournament? Or will the French team once again advance to the grand final without scoring from open play? Will the Netherlands maintain their form from the match against Turkey and beat England? In 1996, Germany triumphed at the Euro held in England. The English team hopes to leave German soil with the title, but first, they must overcome the Netherlands.
The excitement is sure to be high.

1/8 finals completed

3.07.2024

France vs Belgium 1:0
A one-sided match from which France emerged victorious. Had the goal been scored earlier, the match might have been much more exciting. In the next round, France is set to play against Portugal, unless Slovenia manages to disrupt Ronaldo and his team’s plans.

Slovenia vs Portugal (0:0, 0:0, penalties 0:3)
Portugal needed a penalty shootout to overcome Slovenia. Despite numerous chances, including a missed penalty in the second half, Portugal eventually prevailed. Could it have been an upset with Ronaldo finishing the tournament without a goal in the knockout stage? Another Portuguese player, Pepe, is already the oldest participant in the tournament and also became the oldest playing athlete in the knockout stage. After the match, Ronaldo announced that this would be his last European Championship. Pepe, in one of his interviews, stated that he would retire from international football at the same time as Ronaldo.

Romania vs Netherlands
The Dutch team smoothly defeated Romania and advanced to the quarterfinals. This was the first match since 2000 in which the Dutch did not need penalties to defeat their opponent in the knockout stage.

Austria vs Turkey
Austria made contact, but it wasn’t enough against a well-prepared Turkish team. This tournament has already seen the fastest goal in the Italy vs Albania match (23 seconds). Turkey added its share to the records. The goal scored in the 53rd second by Merih Demiral (Turkey) was the fastest goal of the knockout stage.

The quarterfinals start on Friday. To begin with, we have two big matches: Spain vs Germany at 18:00 and Portugal vs France at 21:00. On Saturday, it’s England vs Switzerland at 18:00 and Netherlands vs Turkey at 21:00.

Halfway point 1/8

1.07.2024

We are halfway through the Round of 16 of the 2024 European Championship:

Switzerland vs Italy 2:0
This tournament shows that there are no favorites. The Swiss pulled off a surprise, winning 2-0 and delighting their fans. At the same time, they knocked out the defending champions from four years ago, the Italian team.

Germany vs Denmark 2:0
Is the German machine now unstoppable? Another match demonstrates that they aim to win the tournament on their home turf. In the next round, Germany faces a true test against Spain.

England vs Slovakia 2:1 (after extra time)
It was a close call, as Slovakia almost caused another upset by eliminating England. However, they couldn’t quite manage it. In the 95th minute, Jude Bellingham’s bicycle kick gave England the momentum. Extra time started with a quick goal for England. The Slovaks tried to turn the game around and force penalties, but they couldn’t succeed.

Spain vs Georgia 4:1
Spain continues their march from victory to victory. The Georgians were the first to take the lead, but Spain turned the game around and won 4:1. If it weren’t for Georgia’s goalkeeper, Giorgi Mamardashvili, the defeat could have been even more significant. Mamardashvili’s performance in saving shots has currently placed him second in the all-time saves in a single Euro tournament.

The second half of the Round of 16 also promises excitement. Today, France faces Belgium (18:00), and Portugal takes on Slovenia (21:00). Tomorrow, Romania will compete against the Netherlands (18:00), and Austria will play Turkey (21:00). The emotions will certainly be high.

Group stage behind us

27.06.2024

The group stage is over. We now know the group winners (Germany, Spain, England, Austria, Romania, Portugal) and the four best third-placed teams (Netherlands, Georgia, Slovakia, Slovenia) that advanced in the last round.

Now we take a breather, and on 29.06.2024, we start the knockout stage of the tournament.

29.06.2024 Switzerland vs Italy at 18:00
29.06.2024 Germany vs Denmark at 21:00
The full schedule for the Round of 16 is listed in the section above.

What Happened in the Final Days of Round 3
France vs Poland 1:1, Netherlands vs Austria 2:3
Poland bid farewell to the tournament with a draw against France. At least we managed that. The second match could be described as “catch me if you can.” The Dutch managed to do it only twice. After conceding the third goal, they couldn’t catch up with the runaway Austria. Austria’s victory also gave them first place in the group, even though they were not favored to advance.

Slovakia vs Romania 1:1, Ukraine vs Belgium 0:0
Before the last round, all teams had 3 points. Both matches ended in draws. After the final round, all teams had 4 points, and the standings were decided by the tiebreaking rules for teams with the same number of points.

Czech Republic vs Turkey 1:2
Czech player Antonin Barak received his second yellow card and, consequently, a red card in the 20th minute. This turned out to be the fastest red card in Euro history. Despite playing with 10 men, the Czechs managed to score an equalizer at 1:1. In injury time, Turkey scored to make it 1:2, which cemented the Czech Republic’s elimination and Turkey’s advancement from second place.

Georgia vs Portugal 2:0
It could be described as a David vs. Goliath match, where the underdog team showed that no team is unbeatable. It can safely be said that this was the biggest surprise of the 2024 European Championship. Georgia won 2:0. Even Cristiano Ronaldo couldn’t help his teammates change the course of the match. This was also Ronaldo’s first major tournament where he did not score a goal in the group stage.

Round 3 midway point

25.06.2024

Croatia vs Italy
There’s no denying it was a very good match from both teams. Luka Modric, the goal scorer for 1-0, missed a penalty but moments later pounced on the ball and put it into Italy’s net. It seemed like Croatia would secure 3 points and a direct advance, but the Italians achieved a draw in the final minutes of injury time. As a result of the draw, Italy advanced from the second place, while Croatia, losing the goal, lost the chance to compete further in the tournament despite finishing third.
There are now only two older players in the tournament than Modric: Ronaldo and Pepe, both representing Portugal. Will either of them surpass Modric?

Albania vs Spain 0:1
Kudos to Albania. They held their ground and showed that it is possible to play against Spain (Spain changed a few key players compared to previous matches) and create chances. The goal scored by Ferran Torres was the only one in this match.
Thanks to the victory, Spain advanced from the first place in the group without conceding a single goal.
Are we about to meet the European Championship 2024’s best goalkeeper (Raya, Spain)?

Today, teams from Groups C and D are entering the fray.
In our group (D), we only know the position of our national team. Will the Polish team surprise everyone and thwart the French plans to win the group? Or will Austria continue their winning streak and defeat the Netherlands?
The English national team is quite certain of advancing. But who knows how their match against Slovenia will turn out?
We will find out the results in the evening.

Final round of the group stage

24.06.2024

The first matches of the decisive round are already behind us.
Scotland vs. Hungary ended 0:1. With this victory, Hungary increased their chances of staying in the tournament. The Swiss team drew with Germany 1:1. The draw resulted in the hosts winning the group.
The schedule for the remaining matches of the third round can be found in the Schedule section.

Several interesting events from the weekend:
Georgia earned its first point at the European Championships. The Georgian goalkeeper was instrumental, as the Czech team, despite taking 11 shots at goal, did not win the match.
The Polish team was eliminated as the third team in history after the second round.
The Scottish team was eliminated from the tournament, having taken the fewest shots on goal in the entire group stage. German goalkeeper Manuel Neuer played his 18th match at the European Championships.
Cristiano Ronaldo (Portugal), by assisting on the 3:0 goal, became the top assist provider of the European Championships (and this number may still increase).
In Group E, after the second round, all four teams have the same number of points; the last round will decide the order in the group.

The rules for ranking in the group in case of a tie in points between two or more teams are as follows:

  • Greater number of points obtained in matches between these teams;
  • Better goal difference from matches between these teams;
  • Greater number of goals scored in matches between these teams;
  • If, after applying criteria 1-3, the order is still unresolved, criteria 1-3 are reapplied only among those teams; if still unresolved, further criteria apply:
  • Better goal difference from all group matches;
  • Greater number of goals scored in all group matches;
  • Greater number of wins in all group matches;
  • If in the last round of the group phase, two teams face each other and each has the same number of points, as well as the same number of goals scored and conceded, and if the result ends in a draw in the match between these teams, their group position will be decided by a penalty shoot-out.
  • Fair Play ranking in the final tournament;
  • Position in the qualifying rankings for the main tournament.

To be or not to be

21.06.2024

Today at 18:00, the match that decides our fate in Euro 2024: Poland vs. Austria. Gentlemen, we must win this game. A loss will corner us, and even a draw will make it difficult to advance from third place. Rumor has it that Robert Lewandowski will start from the first minute, but we must remember that the team consists of 11 players, and the 12th is the fans.

We have faced each other ten times so far (5 wins for Poland, 2 draws, and 3 wins for Austria). For both teams, this is a do-or-die match.

Oh, it’s going to be exciting! 😊

The second round has begun

20.06.2024

Croatia vs. Albania 2:2
Albania showed that they will not be an easy team to defeat. They quickly took the lead in the first half (though not as quickly as in the match against Italy). They had several opportunities to extend their lead and control the match until the end. In the second half, Croatia took control, resulting in an equalizer at 1:1. Let’s be honest, they were quite fortunate to take the lead at 2:1 due to an own goal by Albania. It seemed Croatia might score another goal. However, Albania demonstrated the importance of playing until the end, which resulted in a goal to level the score at 2:2. They almost scored a winner, but the match ended in a draw. The second half was certainly entertaining to watch. 😉

Germany vs. Hungary 2:0
This match was relatively uneventful, at least for me. Germany did what was expected, defeating the Hungarian team. Hungary had their chances, but they lacked finishing.

Scotland vs. Switzerland 1:1
A very exciting and fast-paced match to watch. A beautiful goal by Xherdan Shaqiri leveled the score at 1:1 after a terrible mistake by a Scottish player. Shaqiri knows how to score in major tournaments. Yesterday’s goal marked his third consecutive European Championship with a goal, and he has achieved the same feat in the FIFA World Cup.

Yesterday’s results have intensified the competition for the third-place spot, which offers advancement to four teams.

First round completed

19.06.2024

The first round of Euro 2024 is now behind us.
Yesterday, the teams from Group F (Turkey vs. Georgia 3:1, Portugal vs. Czech Republic 2:1) played their first matches as the last group to start. The favorites of these matches, Turkey and Portugal, didn’t have as easy a time as one might have expected.
In the Turkish squad, Arda Guler made his debut in the Championships, scoring a spectacular goal with a speed of 116 km/h. Previously, this title (a debut along with a goal) belonged to Cristiano Ronaldo of Portugal.

In the second match, Portugal vs. Czech Republic, Pepe (41 years old) played for Portugal, becoming the oldest participant in Euro history.

The second round also promises to be interesting. We should get to know the first participants of the knockout phase. The battle for the third place (with four teams advancing to the next phase of the tournament) in the group should also be fierce. Currently, Slovenia leads this ranking with one point. Our team is currently in second place.
Every match of the second round of Euro 2024 should bring a lot of excitement. It’s hard to pinpoint which match will be the most interesting, but I am looking forward to the Poland vs. Austria match (21.06.2024, 18:00).

Check out the match schedules for the second round in our “Match Times” section. Also, join our “Euro24 Match Masters” contest.

Polish Day at Euro 2024

16.06.2024

The opening match did not disappoint, despite being dominated by the German team for most of the game. The match ended with a score of 5:1. All goals were scored by the host team (even the one for the Scots). It’s worth noting that this was the first opening match with such a high score and also the first time a team scored 3 goals in one half. Florian Wirtz (Germany, 21 years and 42 days old) became the youngest scorer in an opening match by scoring his goal.

On the second day of the competition, we met the tournament’s youngest participant, Spaniard Lamine Yamal (16 years and 338 days), who assisted in the Spain vs. Croatia match (3:0). The previous record holder was Polish player Kacper Kozłowski (17 years and 246 days) in the Poland vs. Spain match (1:1) at Euro 2020.

In the Italy vs. Albania match, the fastest goal in the history of the European Championships was scored at 23 seconds by Nedim Bejrami. Our own Robert Lewandowski holds the fifth place in this ranking with a goal at 1 minute and 40 seconds.

Today, the Polish and Dutch teams will be the first to take the field. The history of matches is in favor of our opponents. We have met 19 times before. Only 3 of those matches ended in a victory for us, with 7 draws, and the Dutch celebrating a win 9 times. Our last victory was in the last century, on May 2, 1979, in a qualifying match for Euro 1980, with goals from Zbigniew Boniek and Włodzimierz Mazur.
Despite the absence of key players like Lewandowski and Milik, I am counting on a great show and a victory.

Euro 2024 – Time to Begin

14.06.2024

Tonight marks the start of the 2024 European Championships. About 30 minutes before the first whistle, the Euro 2024 opening ceremony will take place. This ceremony will set the atmosphere for fans both at the stadium in Munich and those watching on their TVs, immersing them in the Euro 2024 vibe. After the ceremony, the moment every fan has been waiting for will arrive—the first whistle of the match between Germany, the hosts of this year’s tournament, and Scotland. Over the next 12 days, we will follow the group stage matches. The last three days of the group stage will be particularly crucial as we find out which teams will advance to the knockout phase. It’s going to be exciting 😊.

Final Test before Euro 2024

8.06.2024

If we could start the Euro 2024 with a victory against the Dutch, similar to our match against Ukraine (a 3:1 win), we would be one step closer to the knockout stage. Looking at the friendly matches of our group opponents suggests that the knockout phase is within our reach.

France (won 3:0 against Luxembourg and drew 0:0 with Canada)
Netherlands (won 4:0 against Canada, today they will play against Iceland)
Austria (won 2:1 against Serbia, drew 1:1 with Switzerland)

However, before we commence our campaign at Euro 2024, we still have one last friendly match against Turkey, which will be held today in Warsaw. We have faced our opponent seventeen times before. The record is in our favor (11 wins for Poland, 3 draws, and 3 victories for our rivals). The goal tally also shows that we enjoy playing against the Turkish team (39 goals scored, 12 conceded). Perhaps another victory today before the fast-approaching Euro 2024 tournament. I also hope that today’s squad will not be diminished by injuries.

Our group rivals for the European Championship are also testing their current form in friendly matches. The Austrian national team won 2:1 against Serbia. Our other group rivals will play their matches as follows:

France vs. Luxembourg on June 5 | Netherlands vs. Canada on June 6

This coming Friday, June 7, at the National Stadium in Warsaw, the Polish national team will face Ukraine in a friendly match.

So far, the two teams have met nine times. The match history suggests that our team should be slight favorites (4 wins, 2 draws, 3 losses). Ukraine’s last match ended in a 0:0 draw against Germany.

Will we continue our winning streak and secure our third consecutive victory?
How do you think this match will end?

By some strange coincidence, we are the last participant of Euro 2024 to announce their squad. Maybe on the last day of the championship, we will also be the last one standing?

Euro24 Championship Stories

Records and funny mistakes

💡 Fun Fact: After his performance at Euro 2024, Lamine Yamal became the youngest player in the tournament’s history, at just 16 years and 338 days. He broke the previous record held by Kacper Kozłowski, who was 17 years and 276 days old when he played at Euro 2020.

  1. Lamine Yamal (Spain, Euro 2024) – 16 years and 338 days
  2. Kacper Kozłowski (Poland, Euro 2020) – 17 years and 276 days
  3. Jude Bellingham (England, Euro 2020) – 17 years and 349 days
  4. Jetro Willems (Netherlands, Euro 2012) – 18 years and 71 days
  5. Enzo Scifo (Belgium, Euro 1984) – 18 years and 115 days

👀 Euro24 and Lamine Yamal’s Mistake

At Euro24, we always cheer for young talents, so we were delighted to hear about Lamine Yamal’s record at Euro 2024. It brought us even more joy when Yamal tagged us on Facebook in one of his posts. Of course, he meant the Euro 2024 Championship, not the transport company. However, we’ve been seeing similar cases quite often lately… almost every day. Well, such a coincidence with our company name only happens once in a hundred years 😉 We wish Yamal continued success and invite you to follow our social media channels – who knows, maybe someone else will mistakenly tag us during this Championship!

Lightning goal, excitement from the very first seconds!

💡 Fun Fact: On June 15th, in the match between Albania and Italy, the Albanians managed to surprise the defending champions thanks to an extraordinary achievement by Nedim Bajrami, who scored a goal just 23 seconds into the game, thereby setting a new record for the fastest goal in the history of the European Championships. Federico Dimarco, the Italian defender, unfortunately threw the ball from a throw-in directly at the feet of the approaching Bajrami.

In 2012, their triumphant journey began with the opening match against Italy in Gdańsk, which they reached thanks to perfectly organized transport. Euro 2024 Mascot – Albärt the Bear

💡 Fun Fact: Meet the biggest star of Euro 2024 – Albärt the Bear! This adorable furry mascot was introduced on June 20, 2023, just before the Germany vs. Colombia match at Veltins-Arena in Gelsenkirchen. Albärt stole the show, debuting in the morning at a primary school in the same city. This is the first time in history that the Euro mascot is a bear, paying homage to the German origin of the teddy bear from the 20th century. The name “Albärt” was chosen in a vote involving children from the UEFA Football in Schools program and fans on uefa.com. The name is inspired by the German word “Bär” which means “bear“.

🧸It seems that Albärt’s close relative, Euruś the Bear, our mascot ambassador, is not just a furry friend – he is a true transport superhero, ready for the competitions!
