Working in freight forwarding allows you to develop your career in several directions. Depending on your education, experience and individual predispositions, you can apply for a job as a forwarding agent or dispatcher, and in larger companies also as a specialist in sales, billing, marketing or human resources. As forwarding companies organise the transport of goods, they do not have to have their own fleet. The exceptions to this are freight forwarding and transport companies (doing both), such as Euro24. Nowadays, forwarding and transport companies, especially medium-sized and large organisations, present an employee’s development path from the very first days of employment. This starts with onboarding, i.e. the appropriate introduction of the employee to his or her position, training to improve qualifications, quarterly and annual feedback, and a clear and transparent career development system. Every new person, including trainees, is supported for the first few weeks by mentors (known as ‘Buddy’), whose job is to make sure that everyone receives full information about their job, their responsibilities and the company itself during their induction. Many companies offer the opportunity to learn in freight forwarding by offering paid internships for students, so anyone can learn the from scratch. Very keenly, these types of internships are aimed at logistics graduates who are willing to wornk in the future in the TSL industry. Also IT, accounting, logistics and sales departments offer great opportunities for development in this type of organisation. Soft skills are valued above all stress resistance, logical thinking and communication skills.
